His Eminence Cardinal Charles Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, Myanmar, while addressing the galaxy of intellectuals gathered at the inaugural session of the 33rd general body meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), conveyed that Catholics are the face of the compassion of Jesus for the poor and the afflicted. Starting from concrete examples of how the “persecuted Burmese Church” has been able to face the challenges of its social context, the cardinal proposes a series of steps to maintain “unity in diversity”

As reported by asianews.it, His Eminence Cardinal Bo remarked that “This nation met Jesus’ message 2000 years ago. From that moment, India has not been the same. It is a great feeling to be with such a Church with such a long history. India stands with Corinth and Ephesus in the great history of the Church’s mission on its debut. When Vasco de Gama came with the missionaries on the west coast, he was amazed to realize that the light of the Gospel shone on this great earth [much] before the Europeans discovered Christ.” Further, His Beatitude added, “Your history, your numbers and your influence take you to the forefront of the Church in Asia.”

The 33rd general body meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) that began at the St John’s Medical College auditorium in Bengaluru on February 2, will conclude on 9th February 2018.
