Fr. Bju Alappat has been appointed as the new secretary of the CBCI Office for Social Communications. Fr. Biju belongs to the Archdiocese of Thrissur in Kerala and has also served as the Diocesan Media Co- Ordinator for the Thrissur Archdiocese. Fr. Varaprasad Marneni was the preceding secretary of the media wing of the CBCI.
The CBCI Commission for Social Communications was established in October 1966 in New Delhi. One of the important tasks undertaken by the Commission was ‘to arouse in the minds of Catholics about the potentials of mass media for service in the church.’ The CBCI Office for Social Communications today serves 166 dioceses which are divided into 13 regions.
