The newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio His Excellency, Most Rev Archbishop Giambattisa Diquattro has arrived in Delhi, India on 16th February.  He was received at  the Indhira Gandhi International airport at Delhi by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), Cardinal George Alencherry, Arch Bishop Anil Couto, Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, secretary General of CBCI among others.

His Excellency was offered a flower bouquet by Cardinal Cleemis and honored with a shawl each by Cardinal Alencherry and Archbishop Anil Couto.  His Holiness Pope Francis had appointed His Excellency Most Reverend Giambattista Diquattro in Rome on   21st January 2017.

Diquattro will act as the diplomatic representative of the Holy See in India and Nepal. Holy See-India and Nepal refers to bilateral relations between the Holy See, which is sovereign over the Vatican City, India and Nepal.  He has  made short visits to Asian countries like Korea and Japan but it is his first posting in an Asian country.  The Nuncio is taking over at a time when India is preparing to receive Pope Francis, who has shown interest in visiting the country.
