The Syro-Malabar Church will be celebrating Mission Week starting from the Feast of Denaha on January 6 to January 12, of the Church. The main aim of this celebration and dedication would be to honor and for the remembrance of the lives and the ministry of all the sacrificed lives who gave themselves to stick in towards the divine goal that was entrusted to them. The Syro-Malabar Church is engaged in missionary work in different countries of the world and more especially in the various regions of India in accordance with the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. The Second Vatican Council underline “the Church by her very nature is a missionary.” (AG.2).

His Eminence Cardinal George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Catholic Church remarked that “We recognize that the vocation of the Church is to be a missionary and we have to rekindle the embers of our apostolic zeal. We have to continue our prayers for the showering of the gifts of the Holy Spirit on the Church as well as on us.” Further, His Beatitude Cardinal Alencherry added, “The youth is the hope of the Church. She wants to appropriate the special talents of the Youth like their imagination and creativity for the missionary apostolate of the Church.” Fr. Pulluvelil highlighted that “This mission week organized by the Syro-Malabar will help to increase the missionaries and will help them to do their mission with full dedication. We celebrate the mission week to especially respect, honor and remember the love of the martyrs who gave their life for their mission.”

His Eminence Cardinal George Alencherry, in his circular letter, mentioned and highlighted the life of Blessed Sr. Rani Maria as a good example of a dedicated missionary. He also exhorted that “We are in the midst of the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of the Syro- Malabar Church as a Major Archiepiscopal Church and thus it is a matter of double joy that in this year also the Church has got the authority to proclaim the Gospel and to engage in pastoral ministry in the whole of India. Syro-Malabar Church began this initiative of Mission Week in 2015, with an aim to honor and remember all the good souls who gave their life for the truth and also to empower the faithful to be a missionary for Jesus Christ!!
