His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Bombay described his experience of meeting Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, Keralite Catholic priest who was recently freed from the terrorists in Yemen, in Rome, as a special meeting and highlighted that Fr. Tom has come out of the struggles with an experience of the presence of the Lord. His Lordship Cardinal Gracias, while giving an interview to Catholic News Agency, reflected that he was afraid that Fr. Uzhunnalil would come out as a broken man but he said that it is a moment of grace, a moment of faith and a special experience.

As reported by ucanindia.in, His Eminence Cardinal Gracias remarked that “The high point was when he told the Holy Father to  tell everybody that Jesus Christ is great, Jesus is great, just three simple words and that was like the sum of his whole experience.” Further, His Lordship added, “Fr. Uzhunnalil is not really stressed in any way you can make out, physically weak but spiritually strong and I met the Holy Father later that afternoon and he was telling me how impressed he was also surprised with the calmness of the man, a man who is perhaps strengthened in the faith after this experience and not bitter about anything.”

His Eminence Cardinal Gracias said that Fr. Uzhunnalil needed rest and appreciated Omani government’s role as well as their decision to bring him over to Vatican, for his recuperation.
