His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the Archbishop of Bombay and also the newly elected President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) met the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi. In his meeting with the PM, His Eminence Cardinal Gracias reminded the Church’s longstanding contributions to the nation building and her work for the well being of the people of India. His Eminence Cardinal Gracias also discussed with the PM about the possibility of the papal visit to India for which Shri Narendra Modi reacted positively.

His Eminence Cardinal drew the attention of the Prime Minister towards a growing anxiety in certain sections of the community regarding the sporadic attacks on minority institutions and personnel in different of the Country. Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, assured the CBCI President that his first priority is the welfare of the people and eradication of poverty. Prime Minister reiterated that he is the Prime Minister of all Indians irrespective of caste and creed.
