The Catholics Bishops in India declared the month of April as the Dalit History of Month and have invited all the faithful in the country to observe the same. A letter from the Office for Scheduled Caste/ Backward Class under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India urged the people to remember the unequivocal contributions of Dalit leaders one by one every day in this most precious period of inspiration.

As reported by mattersindia.com, Fr. Devasagayaraja, national secretary  of the office who has written the letter remarked that “April is the most important period in the year to commemorate the diary of our radical struggle for liberation and the most important contributors who sacrificed their lives towards Dalit Empowerment.”

The office has also invited profiles of Dalit icons who have contributed to the empowerment of Dalits from across India.
