Catholics of Mumbai gathered at six locations across Mumbai on May 1 to express their solidarity with the survivors of sexual abuse. More than 1,000 people attended the ‘Because we care’ program, an event organized by Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of Bombay. A prayer meet was held at each of the six locations followed by talks by religious heads and activists working in the field.

As reported by Hindustan times, Andrew Fernandes, who attended the event at St Francis D Assisi High School, Borivli, noted that “The event was organized to spread the message of peace amidst tense political situation in the country and in the wake of all rising rape cases. It was more about showing our support to those who have been victims of injustice.”

A signature campaign was also initiated for a memorandum that will be submitted to Maneka Gandhi, federal minister for women and child development.
