His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alencherry returned to Kochi from Rome after attending the installation ceremony of the fourteen Cardinals who were newly appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis.
Mar Alencherry was a concelebrant with the Pontiff along with the Cardinals at the mass offered at St. Peter’s Square on June 29th. He met with the Holy Father briefly after the mass. Later, he met with His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Oriental Congregation and discussed with him matters pertaining to the Catholic Church in India and the needs of the Syro-Malabar communities in the Gulf countries. His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias and His Eminence Cardinal Baselios Cleemis were also present at the consistory. His Grace Mar Jacob Manathodath, the newly appointed Administrator of Ernakulam-Angalmaly Archdiocese was also present at the consistory. His Grace Mar Manathodath got the opportunity to meet with His Eminence Cardinal Sandri and His Excellency Archbishop Cyril Vasiline, the Secretary of the Congregation, and to discuss with him the responsibilities of his new job.
His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, during his visit, addressed the representatives of the Youth who were in Rome. On successive days, he visited two convents and held Eucharistic celebrations for them.
