The Catholic Bishops in Kenya have asked the voters to vote wisely in the upcoming elections and encouraged the citizens to pray for peace in the country. In the Bishop’s pastoral letter named “Seek Peace and Prosperity”, the Bishops in the country called on all the Kenyans to join in prayer and a novena for peaceful elections which is expected to long until August 7, 2017. The Bishops have urged the candidates to continue to conduct themselves with decorum and sobriety in the interest of national unity.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, Bishop Philip Anyolo of Homa Bay, chairman of the Kenyan Bishops’ Conference, highlighted that “We are calling upon all Kenyans to seize this opportunity to exercise our constitutional right and give ourselves leaders of integrity.” Further His Excellency added, “We need to create a peaceful environment, to demonstrate our patriotism for our wonderful country, and ensure that all parts of Kenya are in peace.”

The Bishops also appealed to young people and reminded them to restrain themselves from violence and instead be the agents of peace. They also promised to work closely with election observers, state agencies, and non- state actors involved in the election.
