After years of economic collapse and shortages, Venezuela faces radical changes to its constitution and in the midst of political upheaval; the Bishops in Venezuela are urging the government and the citizens to seek a respectful and democratic solution. His Lordship Cardinal Jorge Urosaof Caracas conveyed the terrible deteriorating condition of the country and asked Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela to have a dialogue with the country’s legislature, the National Assembly, whose majority is in opposition to the regime.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Eminence Cardinal Jorge Urosa asserted that “The country is in ruins, people are dying of hunger, there are a number of children dying every month in the hospitals and this demonstrates that the government has not been on top of the circumstances.” Further, His Lordship continued, “The government’s misunderstanding and mishandling of the country’s problems, is something that works against peace in the country.”

The Venezuelan Bishops have argued for a democratic resolution to the mounting economic crises in the country and asked for democratic negotiations to resolve the issue.
