Manila Archdiocese in the Philippines has appealed the government and NGOs to provide skills training and employment opportunities for displaced families in the city of Marawi. The Archdiocese of Manila has already allocated US$40,000 in cash and in kind, as per the report received from the archdiocese. Bishop Edwin de la Pena of Marawi appreciated the efforts of the church institutions in helping the refugees.

As reported by ucanews.com, Fr. Anton Pascual, head of Caritas Manila, remarked that “They (refugees) need a definite source of income for a long term answer to the crisis, but what they really need is a source of living and they need to get back to their normal lives.”

Caritas Philippines, the humanitarian agency of the bishops’ conference, announced that it has sent US$200,000 worth of emergency relief response to Marawi, city in Southern Philippines.
