Christine Nathan from India has been elected as the new president of The Council of the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC). Belonging to the Archdiocese of Bombay, she is the first ICMC president from Asia. The election was held on June 1 in Rome.
In the past, Christine has worked with the International Labor Organization (ILO- UN) and is currently a member of Migrant and Labor Commission of Bombay Archdiocese. She is a devout Catholic whose vision revolves around eradication of child labor, gender equality poverty eradication, etc. She is also a member of various trade unions and organizations.
The ICMC meeting commenced on May 30 and ended on June 1. The new president ensures hope for the Indian Church, in particular, with regards to care towards migrants and refugees.
