The second encyclical of the Holy Father Pope Francis, titled ‘Laudato Si’ with a subtitle ‘On Care For Our Common Home’, has inspired a Filipino woman to become a climate warrior in Arctic waters, who survived super typhoon Haiyan. Joanna Sustento , 26, joined other environmental activists on board the Greenpeace Ship Arctic Sunrise, who are protesting against oil drilling in the Barents Sea and she highlighted the strength that she got from the Pope’s encyclical.

As reported by ucanews.com, Sustento asserted that “I believe that one does not need to be a Christian to take care of our common home and I got a lot of strength and inspiration from the pope’s encyclical on the environment.”

Sustento reminded that the climate change mitigation policies remain largely taken granted by people and affirmed that “It is scary that strong storms become the new normal, but what is even more frightening is the thought of people resigning to that fate and not taking action.” as reported by ucanews.com.
