NEW DELHI: The National Minority Commission has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to define the law of ‘love jihad’ and the legislation to prevent ‘love jihad’. The involvement of the National Minority Commission came in the wake of the Union government’s reply to the Lok Sabha that the word ‘jihad’ has not been defined in law. The National Minority Commission has said that the question raised about the love jihad in the Lok Sabha was raised yesterday. The questions were framed to seek a specific answer, ”said Minority Commission Vice Chairman Adv. George Kurian blamed it.

Such moves only serve to create smoke. George Kurien alleged that this question was aimed at disproving the Syro-Malabar Church Synod’s Love Jihad Resolution. The controversial question was raised by Chalakkudy MP Benny Behanan. The High Court made a reference to Love Jihad in 2009. Since then, 21 people left Kerala in 2016 to join the Islamic State. The Synod’s resolution stated that half of these were converted to Christianity.

No court or agency in India has termed it a terrorist act. Love jihad is the act of converting terrorism to terrorism. Such actions not only disrupt the social environment of Kerala but also affect the security of the country. This is why the National Minority Commission has called for a clear definition of love jihad.
