His Excellency Bishop Ruperto Santos of Philippines, chair of  the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People, conveyed his dislikeness towards the treatment given to the migrants in Hong Kong and urged the employers to provide  decent, humane and secured workplace for their workers.

As reported by ucanews.com, His Grace Bishop Santos remarked that “The treatment given to the Migrants is unjust and unfair; some employers refuse to let the staff use their air-conditioning units even as temperature rise in the special administrative region.” Further, His Excellency added, “With global warming, not to use air-condition is added suffering and effects of high-temperature could also affect workers’ efficiency.”

According to a report by the Mission for Migrant workers, three of five domestic workers lack adequate accommodation, with some forced to sleep in toilets, closets or balconies.
