The Plenary session of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue will convene from 6- 8 June in Rome and will be presided over by Cardinal Miguel Angel Ayusu Guixot M.C.C.J. The theme of the session was ‘Interreligious Dialogue and Conviviality.’
In his address, Pope Francis mentioned that, “your mission is to promote, with other believers, in a fraternal and convivial manner, the journey in search of God; considering people of other religions not in an abstract way, but in a real sense, with a history, desires, sufferings and dreams.” He also encouraged the council to cultivate the spirit and style of conviviality in their relationships, as the word of today needs it.
This institution was established by St. Paul VI as the “Secretariat for non- Christians”, on the day of the Pentecost in 1964. The aim behind this institution was to have a ‘visible and institutional sign of dialogue in church’ with the people of other religions.
