Holy Father Pope Francis appointed His Excellency Bishop Emanuel Hana Shaleta as the head of the eparchy of Saint Peter Apostle of San Diego of the Chaldeans. The appointment was announced by the Vatican on 9th August,2017. His Grace Emanuel was ordained a priest by St. John Paul II on May 13, 1984. His Excellency Bishop Emanuel has until now served as Bishop of  the Mar Addai  Eparchy of Toronto.

His Grace Bishop Shaleta has also served the Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit, as pastor of St. Paul parish in North Hollywood, Calif. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his priestly ordination in 2009, His Excellency Shaleta was titled with “Chorbishop”, which refers to a prelate or archpriest of honor in Eastern Christian Churches.

The Eparchy of San Diego covers 17 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
