His Holiness retired Pope Benedict XVI, in his letter that was sent to the funeral of the late Cardinal Joachim Meisner, remarked about the cheerfulness and dedicated behavior of  His Lordship Cardinal Meisner who worked for the Lord Almighty till his last breath.   His Holiness retired Pope reminded about the impressive nature of the late Cardinal who had always expressed his inner joy and the confidence to proclaim the word of God to the world.   The letter was read out loud by His Grace Archbishop George Ganswein of Urbs Salvia, personal secretary of Pope Benedict XVI at the prelate’s funeral in Cologne.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Holiness Benedict XVI conveyed that “What moved me all the more was that, in the last period of his life, he learned to let go and to live more deeply with the conviction, that the Lord does not abandon His Church, even when sometimes the boat has taken on so much water as to be on the verge of capsizing.”

His Eminence Cardinal Meisner died on July 5, 2017, while on vacation in Bad Fussing, Germany, at the age of 83.   His Holiness Benedict XVI concluded by observing that, “The manner of death which was granted to Cardinal Meisner yet again shows how he lived: gaze fixed on the Lord and conversing with the Lord.”
