Rome: Vatican Press Office chief Matteo Bruni has said that the church and the state will work together to combat the virus in Italy in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. He said the church would work in coordination with the measures initiated by the Italian authorities. Until April 3, public Holy Communion and other services in Italy have been suspended. The closure of the Vatican Museum and the cancellation of public events are part of these measures. Meanwhile, the diocese of Rome, Cardinal Vicar General Angelo de Donatis, has said that the church would be open for personal prayer.

Italy, on the other hand, is the second most affected country after China. According to the latest official figures, 366 people have died of Covid in Italy. Italy’s Department of Health confirmed that the total number of coronavirus cases was 9,000. The number of people diagnosed with the disease was up 24 percent. More than one and a half million people have been observed in 14 provinces of northern Italy. Prime Minister Giuseppe Quantിച്ച, who declared the state of emergency in the country, called for everyone’s help and cooperation in the crisis.
