Kozhikode: KCBC Anti-Alcohol Committee Secretary Secretary Charlie Paul and State Vice President Anthony Jacob Chavara said the move by the government doctor to order alcohol was unethical and unscientific.

Alcoholics should be treated, not alcohol. The World Health Organization has announced therapeutic guidelines for withdrawal symptoms when alcohol is not available. Such treatment can be given in government hospitals. Alcohol addicts should be taken to government and non-governmental alcohol centers.

The government must accept the KGMOA and KMA’s view that alcohol cannot be treated as a drug. The anti-liquor committee said the best way to do so would be to activate the liberation deduction centers.
