Msgr. Jose Puthenveettil was ordained Auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly by Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry with Mar George Valiamattam, Archbishop of Tellicherry and Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath, Auxiliary Bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly as co- celebrants during the ceremony held earlier in September that started at 2.30 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Ernakulam.  His Excellency Most Rev. Salvatore Pennachio, the Apostolic Nuncio to India, blessed the occasion with his presence and message.

More than 20 Bishops participated in the ceremony.  The ceremony began with the reading of the Major Archiepiscopal Letter of Canonical Provision in English by Rev. Fr. Antony Kollannur, the Major Archiepiscopal Chancellor and in Malayalam by Rev. Fr. Varghese Pottackal, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly.  Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath, President of the Kerala Catholic Bishop’s Conference preached the homily.

A large number of priests, sisters and lay faithful participated in the ceremonies.  After the Episcopal Ordination, the new Bishop presided over the concelebrated Holy Qurbana.  There was a felicitation meeting after the Holy Qurbana.  Shri. Oommen Chandy, Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala,  Shri K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution,  Shri K.M. Mani, Minister for Finance, Law and Housing, Shri K. Babu, Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise, Justice Kurian Joseph, Judge of  Supreme Court, Shri  Hibi Eden MLA, Shri Benny Behanan MLA, Shri Dominic Presentation MLA were among  the dignitaries who blessed the occasion with their presence.
