Athens: Ekaterini Sakellaro Paulo, the first woman president of Greece’s history, was sworn in as the Holy Trinity. On 13 March, Zaccaloropoulos was sworn in to the Bible in the presence of the Archbishop of Athens, Ironimos. Unlike the “secular” swearing-in ceremony of former ministers, Ekaterini’s work has attracted the attention of the public, though the ceremony was held in an empty parliament where corona was spreading.

The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the Archbishop of Iranimos, who is also the Synod of the Orthodox Church. Already, there were indications that Zacchellaro Paulo was sworn in the name of God under the Greek constitution. When Alexis Tsipras, a former prime minister and atheist, came to power in 2015, he refused to swear the Bible. In 2018, some of the ministers of Greece have been sworn in by secular oaths. It is in this context that Zakellaroopoulos’s position differs.
