Changanassery: The Changanassery Archdiocese Public Relations Committee has called for a review of the backwardness standards set by the Government of Kerala for implementing a 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections of the non-reserved category. The meeting decided that it was inappropriate to set an annual income of four lakhs for this purpose and the extent of farmland to be two and a half acres in rural areas.

As the central government’s criterion for this is limited to five acres of agricultural land and the annual income to be fixed by the creamery is Rs 8 lakh, it is discretionary for the Government of Kerala to set the following criteria for financial reservation. The standards now issued will adversely affect the employment prospects of many ordinary people.

The Vigilance Committee asked the state government to fix the income limits and the land area for the financial reservation and to apply for all employment notifications after the constitutional amendment came into force. P. in the Archdiocese. R.O. Adv. The meeting was chaired by Joji Chirayal. Kuriachan presented the topic. Joby Prakkuzhi, Adv. George Varghese, Varghese Antony, and Tom Arakkaparambil spoke.
