Tokyo: Francis Pope’s visit to Thailand and Japan lasted for a week. The pope returned to the Vatican this morning. Meanwhile, the Nuncio Archbishop, Mar Joseph Chennoth, was the one who initiated the Pope’s four-day visit to Japan. Mar Joseph Chennoth, a parishioner of Kokamangalam parish in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam and Angamaly, has been serving in the Vatican’s diplomatic wing for four decades.

As Nuncio, Mar Joseph Chennoth was instrumental in planning the Pope’s four-day visit to Japan. At the headquarters of Nuncio, Pope made a special meeting with the Catholic Bishops of Japan. Mar Joseph Chennoth, who served as Vatican’s diplomat in Tanzania, Taiwan and several other countries, was appointed as the Vatican’s ambassador to Japan in 2011.
