Islamabad: Pakistan is trying to pass legislation to protect enforcement over people from minority communities to change their religion. The Pakistani government has appointed a 22-member parliamentary committee to draft the rules. The Committee will also look for ways to protect the rights of minorities. Minister of State for Religious Affairs Nurul Haque Quadri, Human Rights Minister Shareen Masri, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammed Khan and Senator Ashok Kumar are also on the panel.
It is a common occurrence in the country to abduct and marry Christian and Hindu minority girls and force them to convert. This has been questioned internationally. This is the procedure followed. In July this year, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution preventing forcible conversions. The resolution also called for stringent action against the perpetrators of forced conversions.
