Kaduthuruthy: Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry has announced the Syro-Malabar Church as Major Archy Episcopal Church, Kaduthuruthy St Mary’s Forane Church (Valiyapally), an ancient shrine and pilgrimage center in the Archdiocese of Kottayam. On the second day of the three fasting days, the Cardinal Mar George Alencherry declared the Major Archy Episcopal Church as the headquarters of the Knanaya community.
Mar Alencherry wished the Kaduthuruthy church as a center of blessing for all. The Cardinal said that the Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church will continue to work for the betterment of the rights and benefits of the Knanaya community. Syro Malabar Church Major Archy Episcopal Chancellor Fr. Vincent Cheruvathur read the decree of the Great Church as Major Archy Episcopal Church. The Cardinal then made the official announcement.

Major Archdiocese Episcopal status is the highest privilege granted to the Church in the Eastern churches. Kaduthuruthy Valiyapalli is the second archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church to be conferred the title of Major Archy Episcopal Church. With the announcement of the cardinal, the vicar of Valiyapally parish was elevated to the rank of Major Archy Episcopal parish priest.
