New Delhi: In an effort to spread awareness among the stakeholders about the recent updates on the policies of the Government of India, the Jesuit Research and Development Society (JRDS), New Delhi conducted a two-day National Training Workshop on Legal Compliance for NGOs and Educational Institutions at Indian Social Institute on 23 and 24 November 2019.

Welcoming the 110 delegates, Father Shiju Mathew, the Chief Finance Officer of Indian Social Institute (ISI) said that the work was not merely an information-sharing exercise but a practical guide to comply with the policies that govern the NGOs across the country.

Father Denzil Fernandes, the Executive Director of ISI addressing the delegates highlighted the importance of the workshop in the present-day context. The purpose of this workshop is to be aware of the policies to help the weaker section of the society better with total legal compliance to avoid unnecessary harassment from the law enforcement department, he said.

The resource team that included Mr. Joselyn Martins, member of the Institute of Charted Accountants of India, Mr. Michael Dias, practicing advocate, Father Ravi Sagar, Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, and Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, a Chief Finance Officer at ISI, dealt with topics like Tax Deduction at Source, Employment Laws, Assessment of NGOs, Foreign Currency Regulation Act, Registration of Trusts and Societies, Goods and Services Tax and awareness of the various government websites.

The participants expressed satisfaction at the end of the two-day workshop. Sr. Sincy, a delegate from Gujarat said that the workshop was a great help to serve the people better. Mr. Abdul Majid from Telengana said the information gained through the training will now help him and his team to manage the hospitals under their care more effectively without fear.

It is the third National Training Workshop the JRDS has organized for the NGOs in India.
