IGDAGO: Hundreds of Christians flee the African country of Burkina Faso amid threats from Islamic extremists. Jennifer Overton, West African Regional Director for Catholic Relief Services, a Christian charity, has said that Christians are fleeing the country because of the increasing number of attacks daily. Jennifer said the poor community lives in Burkina Faso and people are facing a crisis of food and other essential items without violent incidents.

Since the teachers left the country, many schools have been closed. According to a report released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on February 21, African countries such as Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali pose a major security threat. Since 2019, more than 4,000 people have been killed in those countries. According to the report, four thousand people fly out of Burkina Faso every day alone.

Fourteen people were killed in an armed attack on a motorcycle on December 1 in Burkina Faso. On February 10, Islamic extremists killed an evangelist and four believers in the city of Seba. Similarly, Christians face many attacks in the country every day. Of Burkina Faso’s one million and one million population, only 30 percent are Christian.
