Some US evangelical Christian leaders expressed their wish to talk with Holy Father Pope Francis regarding a controversial publication which wrote an essay on Christianity and American Politics that focused on destroying the goodwill and image of Catholic evangelical collaboration as an ecumenism of hate. Johnnie Moore, a board member of the National Association of Evangelicals and past president of the Virginia based Liberty University has requested a meeting with Pope Francis and other Vatican leaders to discuss on the controversial essay.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, Johnnie Moore remarked that “Rather than being offended, we have chosen to attempt to make peace and so we would be willing to go Rome to meet with whoever, whenever to create a space for dialogue instead of conflict.”

The essay titled “Evangelical Fundamentalism and Catholic Integralism in the USA: A Surprising Ecumenism” made a number of claims, alleging that many conservative Christians have united to promote an ecumenism of hate in policies that contradict the message of His Holiness Pope Francis on mercy.
