Verappuzha / Alappuzha: After years of waiting, and prayers, two deacons have received the Holy Orders amidst Lockdown. Deacon Rixon was a member of the Congregation for the Oblates of St. Joseph (OSJ), which is based in Italy. In both cases, only a handful of people attended, in accordance with government norms.

Bishop Joseph Karikasery of Kottappuram Diocese was in charge of the diocesan services of Deacon Rixon at St. George’s Church, Wadala in the Archdiocese of Verapoly. Eleven years later the parish awaited the reception of Holy Orders. The deacon George Joseph adopted the orders in keeping with all the government regulations.

Archbishop James Rafael was instrumental in the service at Mount Carmel Cathedral, Alappuzha. Despite the sadness of not being able to attend with the parishioners or friends, the two share the joy of living a big dream amidst Lockdown.

Let us pray for the new priests.
