Our Lady of Fathima Church at Godamakunta in Kundapalli village of Keesara mandal in Medchal district, was vandalised by a mob of 100 villagers on Sunday 21stMay 2017. The church was recently built and was consecrated on 13th May by the Archbishop of Hyderabad Reverend Thumma Bala.

The church was not in use since some civil work was still going on. The church was guarded by a watchman and there were five construction workers on the church premises when the mob attacked the church. Statues of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary were desecrated and some portraits and chairs were pulled down. According to the parishioners the church was built with all due permissions in place. They are shocked with this incidence and at the ruthless behaviour of their fellow villagers.

The Archbishop, along with MLA Elvis Stephenson and national coordinator of the Disaster Management wing of the All India Catholic Union, Roydin Roach, visited the spot to take note of the situation and the extent of damage done. An FIR has been registered with the Keesara police who are investigating the matter.
