Washington, DC: A sign-language training program has been launched to prepare the sacrament for the deaf in the United States. Rev. Fr. Shaun Loomis has authored the sacramental book titled ‘Hands of Grace: The Catholic Sacraments in American Sign Language’. The people behind the curriculum hope that the new venture will overcome the challenges that deaf people face during the Holy Eucharist and the Confession.

Fr. Shaun Loomis revealed to Catholic News Agency. They lost all interest in worship. They thought that no one cares about them, Shaun Loomis said. The study assistant has a video of each of the three sacraments, about 6-10 minutes long, on each sacrament. These include the biblical basis of the sacraments, the theology of the sacraments, and the importance of the sacraments in person.

The first video begins by answering where Christ placed the sacraments in the Holy Scriptures. It also includes the Bible interpretations of the Church Fathers. During the seminary period, Fr. Shaun Loomis starts learning American Sign Language. His study looked at helping deaf people. Recognizing the challenges and loneliness faced by the deaf in the midst of his studies, he devised plans to nurture their faith.
