New Delhi: Catholic Youth Day Conference in India, which is to be held next year in India, has been canceled. The Youth Council of the Catholic Bishops’ Council of India has said that the decision to host the 2021 conference is to be abandoned due to the political situation in the country. Secretary to the Fr. Chetan Machado said.

He also said that issues such as the issue of visas to youth representatives and church officials from other countries should also be taken into account. The CBCI Youth Commission head Cotter Bishop Dr Mathrubhumi has said that the decision was to quit the conference. Nazarene Susie has also been notified. India has agreed to host the next youth conference at the 2017 Conference on Qualifying in Indonesia. Cardinal Dr Prabhakaran, Archbishop of Mumbai Oswald Gracias made this announcement on the closing day of the conference.

Every four years, the Youth Conference is organized by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference (FABC) under the supervision of the Advisor of Catholic Youth of Asia, the Youth Desk of Lieut, and the Family Office. Hundreds of young people from over 20 countries, including India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Mongolia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be taking part in the meet.
