The headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church thanked all those who worked for the release of Keralite Catholic priest, Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, especially, Vatican expressed immense gratitude towards the Sultan of Oman for the significant and crucial role he played in the release of the priest. The Vatican confirmed that Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil will return to India only after spending a few days in the country.

As reported by manoramaonline.com, an official statement issued by the Vatican said that “The Holy See fervently thank all those who worked for his release and especially His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and the competent authorities for the Sultanate.” Further, it stated “Fr. Uzhunnalil will remain for a few days in a Salesian community in Rome before going home to India.”

Fr. Uzhunnalil was abducted in March, 2016, by terrorists who attacked an old-age home run by Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity in southern Yemeni, city of Aden and on September 12, 2017, the priest was rescued and freed from the terrorists with the intervention of Oman Sultan.
