The administration of the Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu have declared that Good Friday in the year 2019 would cease to be a compulsory holiday and would remain as an optional/ restricted holiday. This declaration has been condemned by the Christian community in the Union Territories respectively and they have collectively condemned this move of the administration.

The administration has ordered all the public institutions including schools and colleges to be necessarily kept open and working on April 19, 2019. Mr. Anthony Francisco Duarte from Moti Daman, representing the community, has filed a public interest writ petition in the Bombay High Court to challenge the issued notification of the administration of the UTs (Union Territories), which is likely to come up for hearing on April 11, 2019.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of India along with the Alliance Defending Freedom is actively supporting the petition and have asked all the faithful to pray for the same.
