Bombay: The National Bishop council has condemned the brutal killing of a father and son in police custody in Tamil Nadu. CBCI President and Archbishop of Bombay, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, said such brutality from police deployed for the protection of the people is unacceptable and the police should be able to convince the public. In his statement, the Cardinal said that strong action should be taken against it and that confidence in the proper enforcement of the rule of law will be strengthened in the police officers.

The Cardinal also noted that the church is praying for the comfort and peace of the family in the agony of Jayaraj and Fenix. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the CBI in a nationally critical issue. The Fenix duo were taken into police custody for failing to close the shop after the time he was allotted to in the sathankulam district. Jayaraj was also arrested by his father when he went to the station to search for his son. Both men were brutally beaten to death in custody for allegedly attacking the police. It was revealed that Fenix’s back was broken after he was hit with a rope in his private parts, and that he had to change his clothes several times during his stay in the prison.
