SOCKOTO: The Bishop of Sokoto, Nigeria, Matthew Hassan Kukka, has criticized the Western world for not persecuting Christian persecution in Nigeria. The day after Christmas, a militant group linked to the Islamic State in West Africa released videos showing the beheadings of ten Christians. Bishop Matthew Hassan Kooka also expressed concern over the silence behind the lack of any response to the incident. The Nigerian Bishop shared his concerns in an interview with the Christian charity Aid to the Church in Need.

Every day they have to deal with big problems. It is very difficult to understand why the government has not been able to make any progress in dealing with crises. The government leadership is only formally condemning the Christian killings. Then the proceedings of the case are not proceeding. Bishop Cooke said that Western countries are at the forefront of using natural resources on the African continent and therefore the United States and European countries have a responsibility to prevent incidents of violence on the African continent.

According to the Nigeria Security Council, the Council of Foreign Relations, approximately 36,000 people have been killed by terrorist groups in Nigeria over the past 10 years. The organization described the killing of Christians on Christmas Day as a retaliation for the assassination of the head of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and the organization’s cleric Abu’l Hasan al-Mujahid.
