Moscow: President Vladimir Putin thanked the Russian Orthodox Church and other denominations for strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of the community through their selfless service. The President thanked the Russians and Orthodox Christian community who had celebrated Easter on April 19 yesterday. Appreciating the charitable work being done by Christian organizations, Putin said that the Easter holidays bring joy and hope to people’s hearts.

The ideas and values of goodness, love, and justice unite people and help them overcome adversity. As always, Putin lamented that the Russian Orthodox Church and other denominations, through their selfless service, are strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of society and nurturing Russia’s historical and cultural heritage.

In his message, Putin also referred to the role that Christian churches play in strengthening the family system and advancing the youth. While other churches follow the Julian calendar, the Russian Orthodox ritual is based on the Gregorian calendar. In the Russian church, there are different holidays, such as Easter and Christmas. Believers participated in the Easter services in the church yesterday, sitting in their homes on television.

Most of the Russian Christians are members of the Russian Orthodox Church. There is a strong bond between the Orthodox Church and the government. Putin, a strong pro-life-minded person, has announced plans to provide financial aid and loan waivers to families with more children. Communist Russia, once the largest atheist nation in the world, is today a strong fruit of the Christian faith.
