New York: Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the New York Archdiocese of the United States, will visit President Miguel Mario Dias during a visit to Cuban. In 2018, Miguel Mario Dias took over from former Cuban President Raul Castro. Cardinal Dolan visited him earlier that year. When Miguel Mario Dias arrived in New York, he met with Dolan and presented him with the appearance of the Cuban heavenly mediator, Our Lady of Charity of El Cobra. It is estimated that the Cardinal sees the Cuban president as a reminder of this.

After an earlier meeting, Granma, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, praised Cardinal Dolan and received attention. In the 1959 Cuban revolt by Fidel Castro’s brother Fidel Castro, the Catholic Church seized the property and persecuted believers and clergymen. However, Pope John Paul’s visit in 1998, followed by Pope Benedict’s and Francis Pope’s visit, led to easing of the Cuban government’s restrictions on the Catholic Church. The Vatican’s mediation talks on ending diplomatic hostility between Cuba and the United States have drawn much attention.
