Since the fear of new attacks are still prominent on the Christian places of Worship in Sri Lanka, the Catholic Church in the country has taken the decision to cancel the Sunday Masses until further notice. His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, informed the journalists on Friday that church officials came across instances of leaked security document describing Catholic churches and the other denominations as a major target for attackers.

His Eminence Cardinal Ranjith said that “the Catholic community don’t want to witness repeated attacks”. His Eminence Cardinal Ranjith’s comments came after the US embassy warned the people to stay away from the places of worships in the weekend since the Islamist Group are still believed to exist in large in the area

It was April 21st 2019, the Islamist suicide bombers planned a coordinated attack in six different locations which included Catholic churches and Hotels killing at least 250 people. The Archbishop of Colombo also appealed for the financial support to rebuild the lives of affected people and to reconstruct the churches which witnessed the violent bombing attacks.
