Kakkanad: Syro-Malabar Church Synod has assessed that Christians are being discriminated against in government-sponsored schemes for promoting minority communities. Legally, the Minority Welfare Department reserves 80% of the expenditure exclusively for a minority group.

According to the findings of the Left Front government, the Paoli Mohammedkutty Committee, the formula for 80% of aid for Muslims and 20% for minorities and other minorities is based on the erroneous conclusion that this category is for the poor. The Synod urged the government to implement justice as this action is undemocratic and inimical to secular values.
