The Conference of Catholic Bishops Of India (CCBI), appointed Sr. Lilly Francis as the Executive Secretary of the women’s commission of the CCBI earlier this month. She was handed over the responsibilities which was earlier headed by Rev.Sr. Josain D’souza M.S.A.

 The Conference of Catholic Bishops Of India (CCBI), understanding the need for a separate wing for the protection of women in the community, started the women’s commission in the year 2009. The main idea of the wing is to free women from all walks of like from all kinds of bindings-of poverty, slavery, sexual harassment and others. Keeping in mind the requirements of the wing, Sr. Lilly Francis of the Salestian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate fits the brief best.  “She pioneered in establishing ‘Vishwodaya’ Institute of Social Work and Women Development in Nagpur and served as its founding Director for 11 years. She worked as a community organizer in Latin America for a period of three years. She was the Executive Secretary of the CBCI Commission for Women from 2004 to 2011 and became the principal instrument in bringing out the Gender Policy of the CBCI”.

Sr. Lilly Francis(LLB) is also a registered lawyer in Nagpur  and also a Master in Social Works (MSW) which gives society a strong women of a perfect combination of justice and humility.
