Kottayam: Archbishop of Changanacherry, Mar Joseph Perunthottam, said the government should prepare a special commission to study the socio-economic backwardness of the Christian minority in the state. He was inaugurating the St. Thomas Parish in Punnathura on Sunday under the Changanassery Archdiocese. He urged the government to take the initiative to indiscriminately distribute the benefits of minority welfare schemes.

Catholic Congress leader, Archbishop Varghese Antony presided over the function at St. Thomas Parish, Punnathura. Thomas Thumbail, Fr. Zacharias Kunnakkatuthara, Rev. Fr. Rajesh John, Joy Parappuram, Bijo Talisery, and Bannu Kunnathettu addressed the audience. 

The Minority Rights Conference will be held at SB College Kallarakkal Hall, Changanassery on December 1, 2019, at 2 pm. Representatives from various parishes will participate. The event will be inaugurated by the head of the Syro-Malabar Church, Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry. Mar Joseph Perunthottam will deliver the keynote address. Catholic Congress president Archbishop Varghese Antony will preside over the function.
