Abuja: Nigerian believers dressed in black on Ash Monday to express solidarity with the persecuted Christians who are victims of abduction and other crimes. The Nigerian Catholic Bishops Council has called on Ash Monday to discuss the issue on the 21st of February, to celebrate the Lenten Prayer Day on the eve of the fast.

The Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Fr. Zachary Nantiso Samjumi told the media. In a statement released to the parishioners, the parish priest said that there will be no evening Mass in the parishes of the city on March 1 and instead there will be a peaceful protest in prayer.

‘We are sad and we are in tears and tears. But we are confident that the light of Christ shining in our hearts will shine even in the darkest corners of Nigerian society. The message of the bishop’s message is that Nigeria now has to live in fear, whether on the road or at home.
