Vatican City: Pope Francis has prayed a special prayer for China yesterday, the feast day of the Holy Virgin Mary. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI sent a letter to the Congregation of the Believers of China, declaring May 24 as a day of prayer at the Catholic Church in China. On the occasion of the anniversary, the pope assured the Holy Mother of the country that he would offer prayers of solidarity and prayer to China. The pope added that the global community is assuring all the support and hope of the community in crisis.

The Global Church is united in your prayers for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Let Chinese society shine through the light and beauty of God’s Word. The pope wished the Chinese faith community to be steadfast in their faith, united in unity, witnesses of joy, and propagators of hope. Yesterday was a special day of commemoration of the ‘Our Lady of Shanghai’ in the Marian pilgrimage town of Sheshan. The church is still closed following the lockdown.
