Holy Father Pope Francis met with Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, president of Austria, in the Apostolic Palace. The discussion focused on the international community in the search for peaceful solutions to ongoing conflicts in various regions of the world, also reiterating their joint commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons.

As reported by Vatican radio, a statement from the Holy See Press Offices said: “The good relations and fruitful collaboration between the Holy See and Austria were evoked.” The two heads of State also spoke about matters of mutual interest such as the defense of the inviolable dignity of the human person, the promotion of a culture of encounter and concern for the care of creation.”

President Van der Bellen subsequently met with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.
