Holy Father Pope Francis celebrated the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, on 31st July, 2017, by visiting his brother Jesuits at their General Curia house in Rome. His Holiness had sent long tweet honoring St. Ignatius, asking the faithful to place themselves at the service of others like the saint. Holy Father Pope Francis has made a point to visit the Jesuits on this day of feast every year since the election, whether for lunch or dinner, to celebrate the feast with his brothers.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Holiness remarked that “Like Saint Ignatius of Loyola, let us be won over by the Lord Jesus and, led by Him, place ourselves at the service of others.”

St. Ignatius created “The Society of Jesus” and was approved by Pope Paul III in 1540 and grew rapidly. The saint died on July 31, 1556, and was canonized by Gregory XV in 1622. His Holiness Pope Francis joined the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1958.
