Holy Father Pope Francis appointed an Apostolic Nuncio/ Vatican ambassador to the Philippines on 12th September, 2017.  His Excellency Italian Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, until now the Apostolic Nuncio of Lebanon is from now on the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines. His Grace Giordano Caccia takes over the Nuncio position from His Excellency Archbishop Pinto whom His Holiness Pope Francis transferred to Croatia on July 1, 2017.

His Excellency Archbishop Caccia served as Assessor for General Affairs of the Vatican Secretariat of State. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI appointed His Grace Archbishop Caccia as the Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon on July 16, 2009 and was consecrated  Bishop on September 12, 2009.

The Philippines is home to Asia’s largest Catholic population, with around 81% of its over 100 million population following Roman Catholicism.
