On 5th July 2017, His Excellency Luis Rafael Zarama Pasqualetto, a Colombian-born Bishop was announced as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh by the Holy Father Pope Francis and will be replacing Bishop Michael F. Burbidge who was transferred to the Diocese of Arlington. His Grace Luis Rafael was ordained a Bishop on Sept 29, 2009, by Pope Benedict XVI.
As reported by the Catholic news agency , His Excellency Michael F. Burbidge reflected that , “I am Proud to call Zarama as a brother bishop and good friend. He is a holy , faithful and joyful known and respected for his pastoral skills , administrative abilities and kindness.” Wilton D Gregory , the Archbishop of Atlanta remarked that “ the appointment of Bishop Zarama is also an honor for Atlanta.”, as reported by the Catholic news agency.
Bishop Zarama holds a degree in philosophy, theology and also in Canon Law. His Mass of Installation will be on August 29 , 2017.
